The Story

Our friendly little black bear will securely hold your mailbox through wind, sleet and snow!

This fun, adorable project is sure to be a neighborhood favorite. Make him from layers of common lumber using our full size pattern. Sturdy design mounts to a treated 4 x 4 and holds a standard US metal mailbox about 42 inches above the ground. Uses two plastic eyes (two #PE126) available below.

Wood: One 2X12 x 96" long Pine board.
One 2X12 x 52" long piece of Pine.
One 1X12 x 48" long piece of Pine board.
One 4X4 x 24" long treated Post.

Hardware/Materials: Required for assembly.
Screws - Ten #8 x 2-1/2" long, flat head.
Eight #8 x 2" long, flat head.
Eight #6 x 1" long, flat head.
Bolt - One 1/2" dia. x 8" long hex head.
Washer - Two 1/2" flat.
Nut - One 1/2" hex.
Finish Nails - 1-1/2" long.
Plastic Eyes - Two 24mm, brown (#PE126).

Tools: Table Saw, band saw, scroll saw, Hand held jigsaw (sabre saw) with a non-chipping, scrolling blade, Hammer, screwdriver, Level, power drill, 3/32", 5/32", 3/16" and 1/2" dia. drill bits.

Supplies: Transfer paper (#CARB2), pencil & clear tape.
Sand paper - medium & fine grits.
Wood filler - non shrinking, fast drying for wood flaws.
Paint brushes - 2", 3/4" & 1/4" wide brushes and a fine tipped detail brush.
Wood glue-exterior (#GLUETB3).
Caulk - clear, paintable outdoor.

Paint: Water based primer (#PRIMQT) for a base coat and the following colors of Delta acrylic paints:
2035 - Flesh Tan
2063 - Spice Brown
2506 - Black

Sealer: High-grade, non-yellowing, semi-gloss UV protected project sealer (#POLYQT) for outdoor protection.
